One part of Defender's appeal is that you're not just shooting aliens as in Space Invaders, you've a herd of people to keep safe as well.
So this lunchtime, I added the peoples!
They just mill around at the bottom of the screen for now, but have some state to control whether they're being abducted, walking or falling.
I also added a quick score indicator, taking the idea from Snake-A-Roid's score indicator of flickering rgb channels and random offsets when it updates.
The stars have been tweaked to the top of the screen as well.. which makes things feel faster again.
Next job will be to have the aliens abduct the people... whenever I'll find the time to do that!
